Biblical Covenants: God's Compass for a Biblical Hermeneutic (Part 1)

Gib Martin

Gib Martin led a breakout session at the Reformission Conference 2004 in Seattle, WA on how the doctrine of the covenant threads the Bible together. Listen to a pastor who has been in ministry for over 40 years and takes from his life experience many years of learning. The mp3 with Pastor Gib will hopefully help your understanding of the covenants in relation to your Bible. God does think by covenant and therefore we should begin to think through our lives by covenant in what is laid out in the Bible. Paul gives us a great example of how this is done.

Hermeneutical and Exegetical Integrity (Part 2)

Scott Golike

Listen to this audio mp3 of Scott Golike, pastor at Grace Fellowship of Puget Sound, as he speaks on preaching and teaching. Scott holds a M.Div. from Talbot Seminary and Th.M. from Regent College. The important thing for pastors and teachers to grasp is what we are preaching or teaching actually what God is preaching and teaching. Scott challenges those to make the meaning of the passage the message of the sermon. Let us not neglect nor abuse the Bible as we teach and lead people to transformation in Jesus Christ. Scott Golike will lead you through multiple challenges that the preacher and teacher face today. We hope that this breakout from the 2004 Reformission Conference will help those that endeavor to remain faithful to the message of Christ.

Building Teams and Developing Leaders (Part 2)

Jeff Vanderstelt

Jeff Vanderstelt is pastor at Soma Church in Tacoma, WA and was willing to lead a breakout session at the Reformission Conference in 2004. In this audio portion which is broken into two parts Jeff will discuss building teams and the development of leaders. Jeff is a former leader at Willow Creek in Illinois and has drawn some insight into what it takes to build teams and leaders. Leadership is not about us but about glorifying God as the goal. The fundamental flaw is being afraid of leadership development that might replace oneself. We need to see that the incarnate word will make a difference as we develop leaders. Likewise leaders need to be the ones that embody the word in all of life. Jeff gives biblical advice and helpful illustrations on understanding how we may develop leaders that live the word in their life and community. May this mp3 further develop your view of leadership development.

Romans Chapter 9

Gerry Breshears

The following audio is from a breakout session with Dr. Gerry Breshears, professor at Western Seminary, at the Reformission Conference in Seattle, WA 2004. Dr. Breshears demonstrates that Romans 9 shows the persistence of God to bless his people (Israel) despite their hardness of heart. What we see is that no one is messed up too much where God can not redeem them and God can do what he wants. What is uncovered in Romans 9 is that everyone resists God's will and the Lord is the persistent one that extends mercy to his people. In this mp3 Dr. Breshears really uses this seminar to encourage folks to read their Bibles more as they get to difficult passage instead of just resorting to commentaries. Helpful advice from a seasoned theologian and practitioner.

Evangelism in a post-Christian World (Part 2)

Mike Gunn

In part 2 of this breakout session from the Reformission Conference 2004 in Seattle, WA Pastor Mike Gunn (Harambee Church) covers the topic of evangelism in a post-Christian world. Listen to this audio as he fleshes out how God works in many different ways and we need to realize that evangelism not an event but what we do or are as a church. Pastor Mike Gunn challenges people to figure out the "how" from Jesus mandate to preach the gospel to our world. Are we pushing ourselves outside of the standard methods of evangelism? Are we thinking of the people we are reaching or the plans on which we do evangelism? Where does our authority come from in this postmodern world? We need to repent of our moralistic methods of evangelism. Also on this mp3 we need to realize the tensions that surround being evangelistic in the cities that we live in today.

Gerry Breshears on the Emerging Church

Gerry Breshears

In 2004 Dr. Gerry Breshears, professor at Western Seminary, gave a presentation on the Emerging Church at that time during the Reformission Conference in Seattle, WA. In this audio piece we see Dr. Breshears critique the key players in the Emerging Church Movement up to 2004. The great thing about this mp3 that may be different then some other analysis is that Breshears looks through different writings to expose the theologies that tend to drive this movement. Although the audio is long it is because Brashears is taking questions along with his session. With that said we encourage the listener to stay attentive as the majority of the questions were not picked up on the audio.

The Whole Glory of the Gospel of God: From Him, Through Him, and to Him (Part 2)

John Piper

God is the Gospel. In this last audio session from pastor John Piper at the Reformission Conference 2004, John Piper expounds on the essentials of the gospel. There are many "things" that the cross of Christ bought for us that are part of the end point in understanding the gospel. Every pastor needs to present the God centered gospel in their church. First is understanding the goal of predestination as part of the gospel. Then there is the fact that you were created to give glory and hope in God alone. Thirdly the need to understand the incarnation of Jesus Christ. Another "thing" to understand, is the propitiation of the cross. Pastors also need to understand the love of God through sanctification. The gospel also includes the weight of unity amongst the churches of the world. Preach the consummation within the relationship of the gospel. Finally if we do not get love out of the gospel then we will hurt ourselves and others. Therefore we need to realize that this mp3 teaches us that the gospel enables Christians to enjoy God forever, amen.
