Thank You, Jesus, for iTunes

POSTED ON: 06.13.06

Apple LogoI wanted to put up a brief blog thanking iTunes for being a revolutionary way for the gospel to go forth. I also wanted to thank the thousands of people who are subscribing to the stuff we are putting out. As of today (June 8, 2006), the sermon vodcast from Mars Hill Church where I pastor is #1 in all religion and spirituality, the Mars Hill audio podcast is #14, and the Resurgence podcasts from our recent Reform & Resurge Conference in Seattle are already #20, although they have just been up for a few days. Also in the top twenty are Chuck Swindoll, Erwin McManus, Joel Osteen, Josh McDowell, James Dobson, John MacArthur, Andy Stanley, Life Church, Doug Fields, Relevant magazine, Ravi Zacharias, Charles Stanley, and the One Year Daily Audio Bible.

Before long we'll start rolling out the vodcasts from the recent conference, and we are lining up more mini-conferences for the coming year with more theological training and insights that we'll also give away. Also, around Christmas a new book edited by Robert Webber will be published by Zondervan called Listening to the Beliefs of Emerging Churches. In it, five contributors speak to the issues of the Trinity, atonement, and Scripture. The authors are Dan Kimball, John Burke, Doug Pagitt, Karen Ward, and myself, each representing differing ends of the emerging and missional church. Doug and Karen anchor down the left, I guess I am the neo-Calvinist, and Dan and John hold down the evangelical center. We will all be speaking together at the National Pastors' Convention in San Diego the first full week of February 2007 on the book content and the most debated theological issues in the emerging church. You can pray that they let me take our video crew as my hope is to film our discussion panel hosted by Dr. Webber and give it away for free on this site. With any luck we'll even need turnbuckles.

Lastly, I want to thank the elders at Mars Hill for paying for all this good free stuff and the tech guys who do the digital voodoo.

Mark, "all this good free stuff" is what helps keep me going. The podcasts here and at from your church have had a bigger impact on me and my ministry than you can know.

Right now I'm in a ton of trouble (and that's kinda your fault too, this stuff keeps me from backing away from doing the right thing aka holy havok) ... and I'm using these resources to keep my compass pointed North.

Thanks
-Tim

We'll just keep giving away as much as we can. I won't name drop but I'm working on some more big items I hope can be of help. And, I've been surprised by the fact that some blogs are going so widely. For example, the Death By Ministry one has been taken by over 9000 people and posted a ton on the net. So, I intend to keep cranking out some 7-10 page documents of that ilk that can help pastors and that they can hand to help train their leaders. The two I did today are on preaching and eldership and more will be coming. I'm cranking as fast as I can on this stuff and the new books.

Keep it coming, Mark! The stuff you, Mars Hill and Resurgence keep putting out has been influencing us beyond North America to even our network in the Philippines!
