Halftime

We're now a little over half-way through 2007 and it seems appropriate to give a review and an update of the Resurgence website. Right now we are averaging over 62,000 hits a month. At this point we have up on the website a total of 800 articles, audio files and video files. Our articles will only continue to grow as we add the dead guy's works to our current author list.

We received a facelift to the website and to that we are very thankful for the hours that people have poured into this update.

Here are some interesting factoids from our mid-year review:

Our top 3 searches were: Mark Driscoll, Resurgence (or some combination using resurgence) and church names.

Our most interesting searches were the following, my comments in parenthesis:

  • Christian celebrities (I heard of Christian baseball card trading so this is a little new)
  • What happens when you die (honest question, appreciate the search)
  • Absentee father (no doubt the church needs to help in this matter)
  • Jack Bauer (I guess we have a lot of 24 fans or writers)
  • Hermeneutical and exegetical integrity (wouldn't "fideistic biblical phronesis" have been easier)
  • My fear is that these emerging church leaders will only see their support base of new monastic community, labrinth-walking, jolly-blogging, new kind of Christians grow as the disgruntled children of evangelicalism declare heresy to be hip (that was a search? I hope they got a answer for that one, as it comes across as a better comment than narrowed search)
  • Oprah cult (call it what it is, HT: Shai Linne)
  • Swim trunks (This one has kept me up at night)

We had most of our out-of-country visits from: Canada, the United Kingdom and Australia.

We had special visits from: South Africa, China (in addition to Hong Kong), Jordan, Turkey, Tonga and Burundi to name a few out of the 173 countries check out Resurgence.

Thanks for visiting and I pray that Resurgence would continue to be used as a resource and allow growth in God's grace as we reach our cities with the good news of Jesus Christ and that he is true love. I am reminded by Jerry Bridges' comment on grace, "on our best days we need grace lest we become prideful, and on our worst days we need grace lest we become hopeless." Amen.

Gary, exciting to see where the Resurgence is headed. We continue to use the resources often.

Quick question...and this may be a question for Jon. Is the 62,000 a month figure "hits" "pageviews" or "Sessions"

  • Hits is usually anything dinged on the site (every image, page, etc.)

  • Pageviews is, well, pages viewed (commonly used metric)
  • Sessions are how many people visist, maybe click and see a number of pages etc.

My guess is that it would be page views rather than hits, but could be unique sessions.

May the Lord continue to bless your labors.

Hey Reid,
Last month we had 61,799 visits from 30,760 unique visitors and total of 169,443 page views. Sadly the average time spent on the site per visit was only 3 minutes, 10 seconds. What's the deal Resurgence readers? Is this stuff not interesting enough for you?

Hi Gary,

Thanks for the update. I use The Resurgence website almost daily and I appreciate the work you guys do here. Pleasantly surprised to see Hugh Ross included recently as I love science.

Thanks Simon,
As time rolls on we will continue to grow the number of articles and hopefully the breadth of topics.

Jon, I am sure the stats on average time include every simple page scan, checking out what is new on the site. I scan Resurgence via RSS feed and I only linger and read the articles I like. So if you average in all the very short scans with actual article reads...3 min is probably about right.

I thought you guys' page views would be higher than 62K - great to see the site growing and moving forward.

Yeah, I know... still it'd be nice to see average time go up. Almost 50% of the visits are 10 secs or less. (Part of that's my fault, since it's my home page.)

We've have 12-15% growth every quarter since we've been tracking our stats. It'd be great to see more and I think we will, but our site as more than just blogs has really only been around for about 15 months.
